Winter will soon be coming to a close for us in the northern hemisphere, bringing longer days, fresh green grass, flowers, and warmer weather. But before we get too ahead of ourselves with longing for spring showers, let’s make the most of winter before it’s gone.
Take a Hike
Yes, I know it’s cold out, but it will soon be blazingly hot and you’ll wish for chillier air. Take time to go for snow-covered walks, or just experience the barren trees and exposed forests and city around you.
Try a Winter Sport
Go ice skating in the park, or try skiing or snowboarding. The equipment’s not cheap, but it’s worth it for a day on the slopes, outside all day. You’ll feel it in the morning in the good kind of way.
You’re probably going a little stir crazy right about now, but calm down and enjoy your inside time with a good book under the covers, some hot chocolate, and baking cookies. Being cold is the best excuse for comfort food, so use it while you’ve got it.
See Some Snow
If you live in a place too warm to see much snow in the winter, take a weekend trip north to see the world under a white blanket. Even if it’s a day trip, make a snow man, have a snowball fight, and enjoy the singularity of snow that only comes this time of year. If you live near some hills, go sledding, or try a winter beach. The snow-covered dunes are winter in a snapshot. For more inspiration, see my Things to Do on a Snow Day post.
Hone your Skills
Do you knit or craft? Right now is the perfect time to pick up and keep up with those projects. You’ll feel more accomplished when spring comes and you can wear that new dress, or those mittens with a light jacket.
