I’m popping back in from my mad nanowrimo/Thanksgiving travel to write for a bit, along with the rest of the United States, about giving thanks.
There are many reasons the actual observation of Thanksgiving is not necessarily a great celebration, cultural appropriation and militant colonialism, etc. But I find that at least with Thanksgiving, unlike other holidays we have that celebrate awful behavior, we can all use the reminder to be thankful. My list for this year is vast, but here are my top picks:
My amazing husband. We’ve been married a little more than a year now and I’m still surprised at how fun it is!
Starting my own business. I’ve been working for myself, at least partially, for a few years now freelancing, but actually starting Delinquent Debutantes has been so fulfilling.
On that note, all the Delinquent Debutantes students. They are some of the most brilliant women I’ve ever met, and I’m so honored and happy to spend time with them each week. Yes, I’m that sappy teacher, hehe. Especially having my first class graduate and move on to performances, it’s awesome to be a part of growing the burlesque community in Nashville.
Buying a house. Look at me, I’m all grown up! I would have never thought that at this point in my life I’d be married and a homeowner, but it’s great to just be able to tackle projects and really craft this house to how we want it, without worrying about bad landlords or having to move in a year.
My friends and family, no explanation necessary. The people who hold me up when I’m down and support me always. Love to you.
That’s all for now. Back to munching pumpkin pie and apple crumble!
